One Room Challenge: Week 2 – Airy & Colorful Shared Bedroom

|

Shared Bedroom Mood Board
We’ve made quite a bit of headway on the kids’ room this past weekend. The walls & ceiling have been painted, the carpet has been pulled out, the hardwood floors have been refreshed, and a new area rug installed.  We also installed a new ceiling fan.

Oddly enough, I was really sad to see the old wall color go. It was Enamelware by Martha Stewart, and though the colors look really similar in the photos, Enamelware is more of a light tiffany blue color and the new one is more of a light blue-gray color.  The new colors are Sherwin Williams Mountain Air on the walls and Glidden Early Morning Sun on the ceiling. I think they fit the ‘airy’ feel I’m going for just perfectly!

I know that picture still looks like a pretty unfinished ‘progress’ shot, but I wanted to show how great the floors came out.  They’re original to the home and almost 90 years old.  We used Rejuvenate Floor Restorer to shine up the hardwood, and I’m quite impressed. Since the floors have been carpeted the whole time we’ve lived here, we didn’t know what to expect when we tore it all out.  We put down 2 coats of the Rejuvenate within a 3 hour period. Once that was finished, I moved an area rug into the room. It’s really soft & fluffy and gets the seal of approval from the kids.

The bunk bed was delivered yesterday, the bedding was purchased on Monday, and the acrylic bookshelves are on their way, as we speak.   There are still a few DIY projects to complete the room, but everything is moving along smoothly.

Still on the to do list:

  • Camouflage that unused door in the corner
  • Improve toy storage
  • Add space for book storage
  • Create a desk area for two
  • Add a larger dresser to the room for more clothes storage

Check back next week for more! And don’t forget to check out all the other participants’ progress here too.

  1. Wish we had wood floors! Missing our old home’s wood floors. That’s on my want list in the next year or so once the kids have torn up the new carpet. Looking forward to what you do next!
